Arsenal went into the game against Liverpool without lots of their key players.

The likes of Emile Smith-Rowe, Martin Odegard, Thomas Partey, Elneny, Pepe were unavailable for respective reasons.

The situation left Arsenal with only two midfield options from the senior team, made up of Xhaka and Lokonga.

Going into the Semi-final EFL Cup match this Thursday, a lot was expected from Xhaka as the senior most player and a former captain.

However, he let the team down terribly. It took him only 24 minutes to get himself sent off.

His absence doubled the pressure Liverpool had already begun mounting on Arsenal.

But thanks to the tactical swiss by the Arsenal’s technical team headed by Arteta, Liverpool were not able to pose any major threats as they registered just a shot on target.
