The Ghana Tourism Authority in collaboration with Kids ln Tourism, has organized a maiden edition of Junior Tourism Ambassador for sixteen schools as a representative for the sixteen regions in the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Kids In Tourism Ghana, Mrs Nana Akua Afriyie stated that, it is importance for kids to know their cultural heritage and appreciate where they from.
According to Nana Akua Afriyie their outfit is organizing such programs in schools to teach the kids “Our way of culture, our manner of dressing, food, languages and so many others”. She continued; it’s about time we keep our eyes on the kids especially those on social media in order not to go astray but rather keep them in check and be a good signal to those in the diaspora.
Nana Akua Afriyie further said since Ghana is in the year of return, they are in collaboration with year of return fun fair so their outfit is expecting about 300 kids from the diaspora which serves as marketing strategy to gain money for the tourism industry.
A speech read on behalf of the special guest speaker Mr Akwasi Agyeman, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority and Mr. Kofi Atta-Kakra, a Senior Corporate Affairs Officer for GTA said, there are more opportunities that will be given to the kids to promote our rich cultural heritage.
He wishes the kids very well and assured the contestants of his office’s support always.
Expressing his appreciation, H.E Thomas Otchere, Consul of Botswana stated that, promoting Tourism amongst our kids is the key factor every parents and private clubs in the Tourism industry should encouraged in other to bridge the gap between Children and Culture.
He also assured his commitment to support the initiative of giving the foundation of Tourism in the kids as his core duty.
Hon Otchere in his commitment has been supporting the Kids In Tourism in the promotion of Ghanaian culture outside Ghana as a sponsorship to Europe, and said there were more packages he had worked on for next year, to enable the Kids promote Ghana to the world.
President for Women In Business and Tourism Ms. Eunice Agbugo who presented at the event grounds said though government is doing everything on his part for the growth of the industry, it is our share responsibility as well.
Patron and chairman of the program, Okatakyie Nana Anim expressed how necessary for them to organize such a great program for the first time and hope this goes a long way because Ghana culture is very unique compared to other countries.
Kids In Tourism is the first to organized Junior Tourism Ambassador 2019 ceremony titled “promotion of our culture through the kids” to elect brilliant kids for ambassador.
At the end of the program we had winners who emerged at the competition and they were as follows;
Winner: Peggy Osei Agyeman who attends Jingle Bells Preparatory School- Taifa
1st Runner Up: Marzuk Fuseini who also attends Anta Academy School-Abeka
2nd Runner Up: Angela Danquah of Starlet Preparatory School
3rd Runner Up: Johan Fairbanks also attends Atomic Hills Presby School- New Ashonman.
